It's time we won series abroad: Srinath

New Delhi, March 29. Echoing the sentiments of the entire nation, speedster Javagal Srinath on Friday said the Indian cricket team must win the series in West Indies to prove its worth and improve on its pathetic overseas record.

``We have been talking about winning abroad but have not been able to do it. Not in my tenure at least, which now spans almost ten years. It has always been an elusive effort abroad,'' Srinath, who is part of the 15-member Indian team for the two-month long tour, said.

``We have been close (to winning a series) on a couple of occasions but the bottomline is that we haven't. And we ourselves are responsible for it,'' Srinath told Star News. ``We need to win in West Indies. It's time we win something abroad,'' he said.

Srinath said he was looking for some personal achievements too, on this tour. ``Personally I have won nothing abroad,'' he said, adding that he would definitely like to set the record straight this time.

And he has targetted none other than West Indies stalwart Brian Lara. ``He is their batting mainstay. So, obviously our main target would be Lara. We have to make sure that he doesn't get set and start scoring the way he did in Sri Lanka,'' Srinath said. — PTI
