Innings win for Karnataka

BANGALORE Oct. 13. Karnataka recorded its fourth consecutive victory in the Ghulam Ahmed Trophy South Zone under-19 tournament.

In its penultimate league match that concluded at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Monday, Karnataka defeated Andhra by an innings and 146 runs.

Earlier, Andhra resuming its second innings at 30 for one, struggled to erase the 285-run first innings deficit and suffered an early setback as opener A.G. Praveen snicked seamer Gaurav Dhiman. The middle order soon succumbed to the spin duo of off-spinner Ryan Ninan (five for 43) and left-arm spinner Vinoo Prasad (three for 43). Andhra was all out for 139 in 75.4 overs after lunch.

In another match at the IAF Ground, Goa and Hyderabad played out a draw. Goa scored 177 for nine in 80.4 overs when rains hastened close of play on the third and final day. The Goan innings was propped up by Sarvesh Naik's 60, while seamers R. Kaushik and M.P. Arjun grabbed three wickets each. Hyderabad had earlier scored 186.

Rains played spoilsport at the JIRS Ground and washed out the third and final day's play between Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Earlier on the opening day here on Saturday, Tamil Nadu scored 183 for eight in 90 overs. Tamil Nadu and Kerala eked one point each.

The last league matches will commence here on Wednesday.
