Indian women enter final

Hyderabad Oct. 26. India breezed into the final of the women's tennis team champiosnhips of the Afro-Asian Games by beating Nigeria at the Lal Bahadur stadium here today.

In the first singles Rushmi Chakravarthy defeated Osara Amadin 6-0, 6-3 and Sania Mirza slugged it out with Calar Udofa to win 6-2, 6-2.

In the final, India will take on Indonesia which defeated Philippines in another semifinal. Philippines was given a flying start by Czarina Arevalo who put up a good performance to get the better of Septi Mende of Indonesia 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in a hard-fought match. But then Indonesia drew level thanks to Sandy Gumulya who beat Patricia Santos 7-6, 6-1 and in the deciding doubles match the Indonesian pair of Sandy Gumulya and Septi Mende beat Czarina Arevalo and Patricia Santos 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.

The results: Indonesia bt Philippines 2-1 (Septi Mende lost to Czarina Arevalo 5-7, 6-4, 3-6, Sandy Gumulya bt Patricia Santos 7-6, 6-1; Sandy Gumulya and Septi Mende bt Czarina Arevalo and Patricia Santos 7-5, 2-6, 7-5.); India bt Nigeria 2-0 (Rushmi Chakravarthy bt Osara Amadin 6-0, 6-3; Sania Mirza bt Calar Udofa 6-2, 6-2; Doubles to be played).
