HAL & Vijaya Bank keep winning

BANGALORE: Arch rivals HAL and holder Vijaya Bank are in line for yet another title clash. Both teams have thus far maintained an unbeaten run in the Senior Division basketball league at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor stadium courts here on Thursday. HAL posted its seventh straight win with a 64-57 score against Sports Hostel (Bangalore), while Vijaya Bank outwitted ASC 65-35.

While Vijaya Bank has more or less settled down into a combined unit with good sprinkling of youth in its ranks, the HAL has a rich talent of youngsters but is yet to show the cohesion, as a unit.

Mysore takes honours

Mysore Zone, thanks to responsible batting by Pavan Simha (78), Nirmith Nityanand (84 not out) and Aditya B. Sagar (51 not out), scored 325 for four in 90 overs, in reply to Tumkur Zone's first innings total of 257 in 85.5 overs and gained the vital first innings lead of 70 runs in their drawn league encounter in the KSCA U-17 inter-zonal tie played at PET (Mandya) on Thursday.

At Mandya: Tumkur Zone 257 in 85.5 overs (Abhinandan 126, Aditya B Sagar seven for 70) and 80 for two in 19 overs drew with Mysore Zone: 325 for four in 90 overs (Pavan Simha 78, Nirmith Nityanand 84 not out, Aditya B. Sagar 51 not out, Uttam Raj 48). Mysore: 3 pts; Tumkur: 1.

At Mysore: President's XI 371 in 83 overs (Vikas Raj Bhat 106, N.Manish 66 not out, Manish Pandey 40) drew with Bangalore City 102 for three in 31 overs (Suraj Sampath 68 not out). First innings not completed. President's XI: 2 pts; Bangalore City XI: 2.

Tumkur manages a draw

Mysore Zone had to rest content with a 145-run first innings lead over Tumkur Zone in the Bangalore inter-district under-15 tournament match that concluded in a draw in Mysore on Thursday. Following on, Tumkur survived the second innings and scored 167 for six in 71.3 overs with Amogha Varsha's 48 anchoring the innings.

Under-15: Mysore Zone 199 in 49.1 overs drew with Tumkur Zone 54 in 26 overs and 167 for six in 71.3 overs (Amogha Varsha 48).

Bangalore City 296 in 75 overs and 67 for seven in 16 overs drew with President's XI 151 in 68.1 overs (David Mathias 44, G.T. Vishwas five for 39).

Under-17: Combined City XI 333 for nine in 90 overs drew with Bangalore Zone 144 in 54.4 overs (Nishant Shekawat 57, Rajesh Singh four for 43).

Goutham, Ajay in semifinals

Goutham Kalro and Ajay Bhushan moved into the semifinals of the 32nd T.A. Selvaraj Memorial non-medallist billiards tournament.

At the KSBA hall here on Thursday, Goutham defeated Wilson Fernandes 460-292, while Ajay Bushan prevailed 513-412 against Joginder Singh.

Sajan Bopanna and Nihal Wadva will fight it out in the other semi finals.

In the snooker event, Keerthi Simha got the better off of A. Satish Kumar at 26-47, 62-46, 69-72, 50-28, 52-30.
