Gavaskar, Kapil team up with Percept D'Mark

MUMBAI Oct 28. Percept D'Mark, a sports and celebrity management company, signed on cricket legends Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev. The two sporting icons, announcing their decision to team up with one of India's leading sports/event management and marketing companies on Monday, emphasised that their role will extend beyond cricket to multiple disciplines figuring on the Olympic programme, with sports like hockey and golf high on the agenda.

Both former India skippers will function as consultants, besides pooling expertise and contacts for various events and assignments, endorsements and player management.

Kapil's rapport with national sporting federations and Gavaskar's presence among international global corporates will be utilised by Percept D'Mark, according to CEO Sanjay Lal. "It is an honour to have stalwarts of Indian cricket on board. We have in the past worked on independent projects with Kapil Dev as well as Sunil Gavaskar and today the three join hands to become a stronger force.'' Speaking on the occasion at the Cricket Club of India along with Managing Director Shailendra Singh, Kapil talked of getting a better deal for Indian achievers in sports other than cricket.

"There are many champions who work harder but do not always get their due. If a Dhanraj Pillay signs up with a company due to our joint effort, I would be most happy,'' said the World Cup winning captain, talking of working with the federations for the betterment of everyone.

He added: "I have seen Percept D'Mark grow since 1996 and ever since then their achievement is tremendous in the field of sports. What I also truly appreciate is that they are not only thriving on India's no 1 sport, i.e. cricket, but are also eager to make multiple sports reach similar heights in the country.''

Batting maestro Sunil Gavaskar, now an internationally known media personality and cricket administrator dealing with International Cricket Council (ICC) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), observed: "It feels great to be associated with a young, dynamic team that has a clairvoyant vision towards sports in India. I have watched them gain supremacy over the years in sports field and it will be great to complement their vision and add value to sports management in India.''

Both cricket icons have a professional arrangement with Percept D'Mark, with Kapil admitting that it took him six months to make up his mind on taking up the offer.

Launched in 1994 and now linked with $ 20 billion Aegis Group, Europe's largest media buying company, Percept D'Mark has marketed cricketing events like Hero Honda Cup, LG Cup, Sahara Cup and the Sahara India cricket team. The company also has interests in hockey, golf among other sports, besides active involvement with the Hero Indian Sports Academy, which is associated with the Laureus World Sports Academy.
