Gatlin fastest

ROME: Olympic champion Justin Gatlin ran his fastest 100-metre time of the season, winning the race at the Golden Gala meet in 9.96 seconds on Friday.

Meanwhile, three women — France's Christine Arron (100 metres), LaShinda Demus of the United States (400m hurdles) and Russia's Tatyana Lebedeva (triple jump) — remained in the hunt for the $1m jackpot awarded to any athlete who wins their discipline at each of the six Golden League meets
