Former India captain Mohd. Azharuddin and V.V.S. Laxman were among those who attended a meeting of players convened at the Gymkhana Ground.

The specific objective of the meeting was forming a Players’ Association as per the Justice Lodha panel guidelines.

The meeting, held on Friendship Day, as Laxman pointed out, was attended among others by former Ranji players Jyothi Prasad, Faiz Baig, Abdul Bari Wahab, Vijay Mohan Raj, Rajesh Yadav, Noel David, A. Nanda Kishore, Arvind Shetty, Vanka Pratap, Ahmed Quadri.

“Yes, this is a prelude to the formation of a full-fledged Players Association in tune with the Justice Lodha guidelines.

“We discussed in detail about the modalities and functioning of the proposed Association,” former Ranji cricketer R.A. Swaroop said.

“Since this is a pre-requisite for us to have a voice in the administration of the sport, we felt it is time we really got our act together,” he said.

“We will have one more meeting and come out with all necessary details including the Constitution, guidelines and the role which we expect to play in future,” Swaroop said.

“It is a good beginning and the mere presence of the greats like Azhar, Laxman should only enhance the stature of the proposed Association.

“And, obviously, they will have a big role to play,” he said.
