Easy win for KSP

BANGALORE: BANGALORE: Karnataka State Police scored a 4-1 victory over Central Excise in the Deccan Herald super division league hockey tournament here on Tuesday.

Laxman Rao fired in a brace (7th and 19th) with the second goal being off a penalty corner push in. Devendra made no mistake with a penalty stroke (53rd) awarded as the goal bound ball hit the body of a defender and Darshan Kumar also scored off a penalty corner in the 57th minute of the game.

Ajay Aiyappa managed to pull one back for Central Excise with two minutes to go for the final whistle.

Title contenders Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Namdhari XI played out a 2-2 draw to share honours and points. Len Aiyappa converted two of the five penalty corners awarded to BPCL the first in the 17th minute and again in the 65th minute. Namdhari's goals also came off penalty corners with Gurwinder striking first in the 34th minute and Gurcharan scoring the second in the 65th minute. Namdhari's Didar Singh was given two yellow cards during the match and the KSHA technical committee has decided to suspend Namdhari's goal keeper Swinder Singh for the rough play during the match against MEG on Monday. Swinder was awarded a red card and suspended for the rest of the league.

In the first match of the day, Canara Bank and Sports Authority of India played out a 3-3 draw. Sandy Browne (14th off a penalty corner), Rama Rao (41st also penalty corner) and Arun Rawat scored for the Bank team. SAI had its hero in Mayur Subbaiah who scored a hat-trick of penalty corners (21st, 28th and 53rd).
