East Bengal donates Rs. 1 lakh to Junior's widow

KOLKATA, DEC. 6. East Bengal, which won the NFL last season riding on the excellence of Brazilian striker Cristiano Junior, mourned the tragic death of its former player with a prayer meeting as club's flag flew at half-mast on Monday.

The club also donated Rs. 1 lakh to Junior's widow, Juliana, and arranged to send the money through its Goan midfielder Alvito D'Cunha.

Emotions ran high as the club officials, players and coach, Subhas Bhowmick, arrived to pray for the departed soul. Bhowmick lamented the lack of medical facilities and life-saving drugs at the stadium in Bangalore.

He said it was a pity that one of the premier tournaments of the country should have such poor arrangements that could result in the loss of a life.
