Double delight for Anaka

CHENNAI: Ten-year old A. Anaka, in her very first international outing, bagged the girls under-11 squash event, both in the Milo junior open 2005 in Kuala Lumpur and the Penang International junior championship.

Anaka, who joined the SDAT/TNSRA academy just two years ago under a school-level development programme, won her first title in Kuala Lumpur beating countrymate Saumya Karki in the final. She had beaten the third seed Malaysian Mithila in the semifinal. At Penang also Anaka beat Saumya Karki for the title.

Other performances of the Indians in these two tournaments: Akshay Deepak finished runner-up in the boys under-13 category at Penang. He had beaten another Indian Abhishek Pradhan in the semi final. Sujat Barua a recent addition from Mayo College to the Chennai Academy, lost to the eventual title-winner, a Pakistani Nousher Wan Khan in the under-15 quarterfinal at Kuala Lumpur and reached the semifinal at Penang. B. Aparajitha placed third in the Milo junior open in the under-13 category and fourth in Penang open. Harita Om Prakash lost in the quarterfinal in the Milo tournament and placed sixth in the Penang tourney in the Under-15 category.

In all 12 trainees of the SDAT-TNSRA academy had gone along with coach Hari Om Tripathi for the two tournaments. — Special Correspondent
