Decision on third Test venue today

Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India's Tour Programme & Fixtures Committee (TPC) has decided that, by the principle of rotation, it will be the turn of Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) to stage the third and final Test against Sri Lanka from December 18 to 22.

"But we have received a letter from the UPCA President Rajiv Shukla that should the Uttar Pradesh Government hand over the Green Park to the association soon, his association will be able to stage the Test. We will place the committee's recommendation and the UPCA's letter to the Working Committee tomorrow for a decision,'' said Mr. Shashank Manohar, BCCI Vice-President and Chairman TPC.

Mr. Manohar said should the Gujarat CA stage the third Test against Sri Lanka, the three Tests against England would be awarded to the Punjab Cricket Association (Mohali), Vidarbha Cricket Association (Nagpur) and Mumbai Cricket Association.

The TPC also decided to award the two three-day warm up games for England to the Baroda Cricket Association and Cricket Club of India (Brabourne Stadium). The previous TPC had awarded these two matches to Agartala (Tripura) and Jamshedpur (Jharkhand).

The TPC has decided to recommend Madhya Pradesh (Indore), Goa, Punjab (Mohali), Delhi, Assam (Guwahati), Kerala (Kochi) and Haryana (Faridabad) as the seven venues for the one-day internationals against England. Haryana CA's request to shift the match venue to the Sector 16 Stadium Chandigarh and not Faridabad will be placed before the Working Committee. The TPC has removed Vishakapatnam from the list announced by the previous TPC.

The itinerary will be finalised after the Working Committee deliberates on the TPC's recommendations and requests from UPCA and Haryana. The status of the third Test and series against England is as follows:

In the event of the UPCA being able to stage the third Test against Sri Lanka (Dec. 18-22), the three Tests against England will be played at Ahmedabad (Motera), Nagpur and Mumbai.

In the event of the Gujarat CA staging the third Test against Sri Lanka, the three Tests against England will be played at Mohali, Nagpur and Mumbai, following which the one-day international allocated to Mohali would be given to Jharkhand (Jamshedpur).
