Carrom tournament

HYDERABAD: The All India Carrom Federation is toying with the idea of dropping the doubles competition from the Senior Nationals in an effort to make the sport livelier. This was the near-unanimous opinion at the AGM held recently.

In line with this theory, Hyderabad Carrom Association has decided to organise an experimental tournament with two changes in the peripheral rules without touching the basics. The `Speed Carrom' tournament with only one event for open singles, open to both men and women, will be held at Regional Carrom Coaching Centre (Lal Bahadur Stadium) here from June 18 to 19.

The novelty in this event is that there are no trial boards and the matches are played continuously one round after another. Instead of eight boards, the maximum number of boards per game up to quarterfinals will be six. The last three rounds will be of eight boards.

Entry and further details can be obtained from S. Madanraj, secretary of HCA, and B.K. Haranath, president of HCA. — Sports Reporter
