Brazil in last eight

ATHENS, AUG. 21. Brazil remained the only unbeaten team in the women's Olympic volleyball tournament on Friday, securing its quarterfinal berth with a 3-0 win over Greece.

South Korea, Italy, China and Cuba also won their matches by three sets to nil and advanced to the last eight. Later, Russia edged the United States 3-2.

South Korea progressed with a hard fought 25-21, 26-24, 25-21 win over Asian rival Japan, which will have to beat Kenya in its final preliminary to make the quarterfinals.

Greece is ranked 19 places behind World No. 2 Brazil but was a feisty opponent as the South Americans won 25-22, 25-22, 25-11. ``They had two very good sets,'' Brazil head coach Jose Guimaraes said.

``Their passing was very good. The first and second sets were difficult.'' — AP
