Blignaut pegs Pakistan back

Harare Nov. 9. Zimbabwe medium-pacer Andy Blignaut claimed five wickets as Pakistan was bowled out for 285 on the opening day of the first Test against Zimbabwe here on Saturday.

After a comfortable 217 for four wickets at tea in a match that swung in favour of one side or the other, the visitor slumped in the final session, losing the last five wickets for a paltry 39 runs.

.First it was Zimbabwe which held the initiative, claiming the wicket of Saleem Elahi, caught by Alistair Campbell off Andy Blignaut. Elahi made only two and Pakistan was 7-1.

Campbell's decision to ask Pakistan to bat after winning the toss and expecting much of the greenish wicket seemed to be justified.

But Taufeeq Umar and Younis Khan came together to put on 115 for the second wicket before the latter was caught by Dion Ebrahim off Blignaut for 40. At that stage Pakistan was on the ascendancy. But only a few balls later Taufeeq was dismissed for a competent 75.
