Balasubramanium clinches title

SALEM, DEC. 30. R. Balasubramanium of ICF clinched the title in the 11-round international FIDE rating chess tournament conducted here under the aegis of the Golden Squares Women's Chess Academy. Balasubramanium with 10 points, bagged the Sona Trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 20,000.

Nikhilesh Kumar and Lakshman Rao, both from Andhra Pradesh, secured the second and third positions respectively. Special prizes for women, juniors and Salem players too were also given away in the event held in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the academy.

The Salem District Collector, Dr. J. Radhakrishnan, distributed the prizes. Ms. Alamelu Sampath, president and Ms. Srimathi Jagannathan, secretary of the academy also participated.
