Badrinath, Radhakrishnan hog the limelight

CHENNAI Aug. 10. Jolly Rovers' S. Badrinath, bowling off-spin, claimed six wickets against Globe Trotters and U.R. Radhakrishnan of UFCC (T. Nagar) notched up a century at the expense of SPIC on the opening day of the seventh round in the SPIC-TNCA first division league, here, on Sunday.

The proceedings were rather dramatic at IIT-Chemplast, where, Trotters, opting to bat, was dismissed for 162, No. 3. S. Sriram's 47 (104b, 4x4) being the highest contribution. While Badrinath returned impressive figures of six for 55, left-arm spinner R. Ramkumar chipped in with three scalps. In reply, Rovers was six for one at stumps.

Radhakrishnan, opening the innings, made 121 (194b, 15x4, 2x6) out of an UFCC score of 203 at SPIC-YMCA. For the host, paceman Ishan Malhotra, offie B. Ramprakash and left-arm spinner V. Arun Kumar took three wickets each. UFCC had won the toss.

ICF put up a spirited display at ICL-Guru Nanak, where, Vijay, inserted, was bowled out for 213. Opener and captain S. Suresh scored 76 (81b, 2x6, 1x4) - he crossed 500 runs for the season during his seventh innings - and No. 7. D.J. Gokulakrishnan rattled up a 60-ball 57 (8x4, 1x6). For ICF, paceman G.V. Manivannan and off-spinner Hufeza M. Patel picked up three and four wickets respectively. ICF was 74 for three in reply, opener R. Sukumar on 47 (117b, 7x4).

IOB, winning the toss, ended the day at 267 for seven against India Pistons at CPT-IP, No. 6. K.S. Shahabuddin's 86 (124b, 8x4, 2x6) and No. 4 Y. Venugopala Rao's 49 (138b) proving valuable efforts. Pistons off-spinner M.A. Satish Kumar scalped three.

An opening partnership of 167 in 68 overs between V. Gautham (87, 219b, 6x4) and Juzer Abbas (73, 200b, 6x4) was the highlight in SICAL's 222 for four, after electing to bat, against Mambalam Mosquitos at SICAL-Vivekananda.

And Alwarpet, opting to bat, finished at 116 for eight against Parry's at MAC `A'. Opener M. Vijay made 56 (104b, 8x4), while paceman M. Ganapathy grabbed four for 26.
