Award for Hanuman Akhara

Delhi-based wrestling academy, Guru Hanuman Akhara, has been chosen for this year’s Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar (RKPP).

According to a Sports Ministry release here on Thursday, Guru Hanuman Akhara has been chosen for ‘establishment and management of sports academies of excellence.’

President Pranab Mukherjee will honour the RKPP awardees along with Arjuna, Dronacharya and Dhyan Chand award winners at the National Sports Awards function here on August 29.

Other RKPP awardees: Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (employment of sports persons and sports welfare measures); Jindal Steel Works (community sports — identification and nurturing of budding/young talent); Child Link Foundation of India — Magic Bus (other forms of sports activities not covered in the categories mentioned in the schemes).

Manisha and Neha excel for SKV (Nangloi)

Manisha and Neha scored a brace each as Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya (SKV), Nangloi, beat SKV, Ghuman Hera, 4-0 in a Pool B match to make it to the girls' semifinals of the Nehru Dhyan Chand Cup for Delhi schools at the Shivaji Stadium here on Thursday.

SKV, Vijay Enclave, thrashed SKV, Dilshad Garden, 9-0 in Pool A to reach the last four.

The results: Boys: Pool A: Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School, J Block, Saket-1, 3 (Sharvan Kr. Nigam, Naveen Pandey, Anil Kumar) bt Govt. Boys Senior Secondary School, Ghitorni, 0.

Girls: Pool A: SKV, Vijay Enclave, 9 (Taniya 6, Sarita 3) bt SKV, Dilshad Garden, 0; Pool B: SKV, Nangloi, 4 (Manisha 2, Neha 2) bt SKV, Ghuman Hera, 0.
