Award for Gilchrist

MELBOURNE Jan. 28. Wicketkeeper-batsman Adam Gilchrist won the Allan Border Medal as Australian cricketer of the year on Tuesday after earlier taking the international one-day player award.

The 31-year-old Gilchrist won with 88 votes, four more than Ricky Ponting and nine ahead of spin bowler Shane Warne. The award is named after former Australian captain Border.

Ponting was named Test player with 13 votes, edging Warne by one.
