Army enters final

NEW DELHI: Argentine Martin Ravina and Santiago de Estrada scored five goals each to steer Army into the final of the Amby Valley Maharaja Hari Singh memorial Cup 14-goal polo tournament at the Jaipur Polo Ground here on Saturday.

Army took an early lead and maintained the edge to beat favourite Jindal Steel and Power 13-9. Capt. Ravi Rathore chipped in with three goals. For Jindals, Tarquin Southwell slotted home four goals, while Simran Shergill scored three and Samir Suhag two.

Army meets Majaara in the final on Sunday. In the last league match in pool B, Majaara rallied to beat Amby Valley Royal Kashmir 12-11. Majaara trailed 5-7 at the end of the third chukker but caught up towards the end.

Gerardo Mazzini scored five, while Satinder Garcha had four and Vishal Singh three goals for Majaara. For Royal Kashmir, Angad Kalaan was the top scorer with eight goals. Oliver Taylor scored two and Abhimanyu Pathak one.

GHPS posts win

Guru Harkrishan Public School, Vasant Vihar, defeated Sachdeva Public School 5-0 in the senior boys' section of the 23rd S.S. Mota Singh memorial hockey tournament at the school ground in Janakpuri here. Dev Veer Singh (2), Amit Kumar, Jatinder and J.P. Singh scored the goals.

In the girls' section, Lakshmi scored the match-winner in the third minute, as Government Girls Senior Secondary Model School, Sector-7, Rohini, beat Bal Bharati Public School, Noida, 1-0.

In the junior boys' section, Delhi PS, Rohini, beat Sachdeva PS, 4-2 in the tie-break after the teams were locked 2-2 at the end of the regulation period.

In another match in the same category, S.S. Mota Singh School, GHK Nagar, beat Mt. Abu Public School, Rohini, 1-0, thanks to Jasminder Pal Singh finding the target in the 23rd minute.

Senior volleyball

The Delhi State senior volleyball championship for men and women will be held at the Ashok Vihar volleyball ground in Delhi from Dec. 7 to 11. Interested teams may send in their entries to the general secretary of the Delhi Volleyball Association, Gopi Nathan, at D-2/176, Sector 11, Rohini, Delhi 110085, before Dec. 4.
