Anand outwits Svidler

DORTMUND, JULY 24. Playing like a champion, Viswanathan Anand drew first blood in the Dortmund Sparkassen chess meeting here when he defeated Russia's Peter Svidler in the midst of drawn second round matches at the Dortmund Theater on Friday.

Meanwhile, in Biel (Switzerland), K. Sasikiran followed his hard-earned victory over British GM Luke McShane by drawing with Frenchman Etienne Bacrot in the fifth round to move in the second spot with three points behind leader Alexander Morozevich in the Biel International Grandmasters chess tournament.
