A day to remember for Mishra

BANGALORE Oct. 5. Hope floats for Amit Mishra. The Haryana leg-spinner's smiles were brighter than the flashing cameras as he let the moment sink in at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Saturday.

"I was not tense while bowling against the West Indies here, though my selection to the Test team was not entirely unexpected,'' he told the media after his name figured in the Indian squad for the first two Tests in Mumbai and Chennai.

Mishra, who will turn 20 this November, said, "my strength is sharp leg-spin and my trajectory depends on the nature of the pitches.''

Mishra was part of the India `A' team which toured Sri Lanka in May and in the two Tests against the host's A team, he bagged nine wickets with the five for 35 in the first Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club at Colombo, being his best. Earlier, playing for the Board President's XI against Zimbabwe at Vijayawada last February, he tweaked in a six for 95 spell to grab the selectors' attention. The wiry spinner, with 67 first class wickets averaging 26.28, is keen to make a mark in tandem with Anil Kumble. "Hope to do well,'' said the spinner who is fascinated by Shane Warne's magic.
