KOLKATA: Yuki Bhambri continued to show good form in his graduation to senior tennis, winning the singles title of the ONGC $15,000 ITF Futures here at the BTA Complex on Saturday.

Fifth-seeded Bhambri got past the challenge of local favourite and eighth-seeded Rupesh Roy in straight sets to pick up his fifth singles crown in the six Futures tournaments he has played so far this season.

Rohan-Purav duo wins

The top seeded pair of Rohan Gajjar and Purav Raja justified their billing to win the doubles title beating the second-seeded combination of Vishnu Vardhan and Divij Sharan.

The singles final saw Yuki Bhambri making a dogged effort to keep his winning record in the final intact.

Giving a good indication of his ability Bhambri broke Roy twice in the third and the ninth games to win the first set with ease. The junior World No. 1 was in total control over the proceedings as he served and returned with equal proficiency.

As Roy tried to turn around in the second set tuning up his game, Bhambri picked up a back sprain.

In spite of that, Bhambri, who even took a medical time-out, hung on to his service games and salvaged breakpoints twice in the ninth and 11th games to force the set into the tie-breaker. With Roy helping with some unforced errors, Bhambri won it 7-4 to ensure the tile.

The results (all Indians unless specified): Singles: Final: Yuki Bhambri bt Rupesh Roy 6-3, 7-6(4).

Doubles: Final: Rohan Gajjar & Purav Raja bt Divij Sharan & Vishnu Vardhan 6-4, 7-5. Semifinal: Sharan & Vardhan bt Yuki Bhambri & Young-Jim Kim (Kor) 6-3, 6-0.
