The first ‘doosra’

Bangalore: The National Cricket Academy through a press release has said that former Delhi off-spinner Rajkumar Sharma is `probably the first recorded doosra bowler in the history of cricket. ‘The bio-mechanics expert Dr. Rene Ferdinands termed Rajukumar’s action while bowling the ‘doosra’ as ‘100 per cent legal’.

“Raj has an extreme case of wrist hyper-mobility which enables him to bowl a doosra with a straight arm,” added Dr. Ferdinands, who will take the video-tapes of Rajkumar’s action to Australia for more biomechanical analysis. Rajkumar claims that he dismissed Pakistani batsman Ijaz Ahmed through a ‘doosra’ in 1987. — Principal Corrrespondent
