Stella Maris edged out MOP Vaishnav 4-2 via tie-breaker after being goalless at regulation time in the inter-collegiate final of the Chennai district women's hockey league at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Thursday.

After a not-so impressive display in the 50-minute duel, Stella girls were spot on during the shoot-out as all the four players — V. Nandhini, Simran Bedi, M. Menaka and R. Kanimozhi — found the net. Costly misses by M. Shanbagavalli, Dalin Lina didn't help MOP's cause.

Though the overall quality of the summit clash wasn't upto expected standards, MOP proved to be a shade better in trapping and one-on-one passes.

Both the teams had their fare share of chances.

Earlier, field goals by Sathyapriya (43rd minute) and Aruna Nancy Thabithal (45th) enabled St. Ebbas defeat Presidency 2-0 to clinch the inter-school title. K. Sayeeram, District Chairman, Rotary Club of Madras Metro, gave away the prizes.

The scores: Inter-collegiate final: Stella 4 (V. Nandhini, Simran Bedi, C. Radhika and R. Kanimozhi) bt MOP Vaishnav 2 (R. Chitra, Shanthi) via tie-breaker (0-0 at regulation time).

Inter-school final: St. Ebbas 2 (Sathyapriya, Aruna Nancy Thabithal) bt Presidency 0.

Wednesday's matches: St. Ebbas 2 (Velvizhi, Sangeetha) bt Vidyodaya 1 (Mani Megalai); Presidency 2 (Banuchandra 2) bt Agarwal Vidyalaya 0 .
