Shashank defeats Jatinder

NEW DELHI: Shashank Nautiyal got past Jatinder Singh 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the under-14 boys’ section in the Ram Lal memorial AITA Talent series junior tennis tournament at the Vasant Kunj Sports Complex here on Tuesday.

Heroes posts win

A goal each from Nigerians Stanley and Tunde helped New Delhi Heroes to a 2-1 victory over Ahbab Club in a Group ‘B’ super league match of the SAIL-ONGC DSA senior division football league at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Tuesday.

Hitender Singh Rawat put Ahbab in the lead in the 25th minute. It was the second successive win for New Delhi Heroes, while Ahbab tasted its first defeat in three matches so far.

Cash awards presented

Union Sports Minister Mani Shankar Aiyar on Tuesday presented a cash award of Rs. 10 lakh to archer Dola Banerjee for her achievement at the World Cup final in Dubai last November.

All India Chess Federation (AICF) Secretary D.V. Sundar received a similar amount on behalf of World champion Viswanathan Anand at a function held at the ministry.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Sundar said that the efforts of the ministry were mainly responsible for India doing well in chess in the international arena.
