SBH records emphatic win over AG

HYDERABAD: State Bank of Hyderabad recorded an emphatic, 4-1 win over Accountant-General (AP) in the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at Gymkhana Grounds here on Saturday.

It was AGAP which took the lead in the fourth minute when veteran midfielder Iftaqar Ahmed headed in a perfect cross from the right corner by Mamboi.

The Bankmen found the equaliser through striker Fareed in the 19th minute and within seven minutes made it 2-1.

Striker Fareed’s powerful shot was blocked by a diving AG’s custodian Vinod but an alert Khaja pounced on the rebound to slot the ball into the goal.

In the second session, Prakash scored again for SBH and in the final minutes, a 35-yard shot by Siraj to complete the tally.

Match drawn

In another match, EME Centre and South Central Railway were locked in a two-all draw.

The Armymen took the lead in the fifth minute with V.S. Rawal scoring off a solo run and soon increased the lead when Rajesh Mathew was spot on with a long-ranger.

But, Railways’ Srinivas in the 59th minute and Vijay, heading in a corner kick by Jude Antony, in the 62nd minute ensured that the match ended in a draw.

Ajanta wins trophy

Ajanta recorded a 12-run win over Golconda in the final of the 24th all-India Atomic Energy cricket tournament at NFC Grounds here.

The scores:

Ajanta 192 (Nitin 75, Sampangi four for 28) bt Golconda 180 for nine (Waheed 55 n.o., M.V.N. Raju 40).

Postal has it easy

Strong contender Hyderabad Postal defeated Reserve Bank of India 3-0 in the Deccan Chronicle inter-institutional team event of the Corporate table tennis tournament organised by Sports 360 at AWASA Academy.

Earlier, Postal downed Oriental Insurance for an identical victory.

In the first singles, K. Sridhar defeated Sudheer 7-11, 11-2, 12-10, 7-11, 11-2 and later M. Krishna Kiriti downed Md. Ali 11-7, 7-11, 13-11, 11-5.

Postal completed a clean sweep winning the doubles too when Kiriti and Sridahr combined to get the better of Sudheer and Md. Ali 12-10, 8-11, 11-4, 11-9.
