Ram Krishnan in sole lead

Chennai: Top seed Ram S. Krishnan of BSNL, Chennai moved into sole lead after his seventh win in the eighth round of the S.K. Narasihman FIDE rated open chess tournament here on Saturday.

Ram broke from the bunch of joint leaders to move ahead with seven points after defeating R. Sanggeetha.

In the joint second place with 6.5 points are four players Praveen Kumar, G.B. Prakash, Lakshmi Narayanan and P. Phoobalan. Three rounds remains to be played in this contest. Ram pinned a bishop and won two pawns and won in 44 moves with the black pieces.

On board number two, Praveen Kumar and G.B. Prakash played out a draw.
