Pranjala wins girls’ under-14 title

HYDERABAD: Y. Pranjala won the girls’ under-14 singles title defeating P. Rashmitha Reddy 7-5, 6-3 in the final of the KEI Group sponsored AITA Talent Series tennis tournament organised by Sun-Jay Tennis Academy at ASCI here on Saturday.

EME gets walk-over

EME Centre got a walk-over from South Central Railway when the latter did not turn up for the super league match of the SAAP Budweiser Premier League football championship at Gymkhana Grounds.

The tournament committee awarded three points and three goals to the Armymen as per the rules of the event. It also decided to suspend Railway outfit on disciplinary grounds for the rest of the championship.

Hyderabad Bottling wins

Hyderabad Bottling won the A-Division (knock-out) cricket championship with a 81-run win over Falaknuma in the final.

The scores: Hyderabad Bottling 274 for nine (Sohail Khan 56, Chidambeswara Rao 64) bt Falaknuma 193 (Kishore 50).

Double for Don Bosco

Don Bosco High School bagged a double winning the team events in the girls juniors and seniors categories of the fourth S. R. N. Mudiraj Inter-school table tennis tournament held here.

Six pacers selected

Six promising fast bowlers in three different age groups have been identified in the Gatorade Pacers 2009 programme which was held at Gymkhana Grounds on Saturday. The final round was monitored by former India left-arm spinner S.L. Venkatapathi Raju, former Hyderabad wicketkeeper Youraj Singh, Abhijit Chatterjee and Chetan Joshi in coordination with the top officials of the PepsiCo India. Except the under-15 category pace bowlers, the others will be sent to Delhi for national selection camp from February 3 to 4 where they will join the qualifiers from the other metros as part of the long-term programme to groom fast bowling talent across India by PepsiCo. Sandeep Walung, vice-president (Marketing, PepsiCo), released the following list of the selected pace bowlers:

The selected players: Under-15: K. Sreedharhas, K. Raja Ravi. Under-19: K. Chandrakanth, Md. Azheer Ali and Irfan Khan (stand-bye). Under-22: M. A. Basheer, R. Vishnuvardhan Reddy and Md. Irfanullah Khan (stand-bye).

Athletic meet

APSRTC will organise 19th M.P.V. Anantha memorial athletic meet from January 30 to February 1 at Rajahmundry Arts College Grounds. .

East Coast beats Andhra

East Coast defeated Andhra 25-14, 25-20, 25-19 in the all-India invitation volleyball tournament near Patamata indoor stadium at Vijayawada on Saturday. In the inaugural match on Saturday night, Chennai’s Hostel of Excellency beat Andhra 25-19, 25-12, 21-25, 25-22. The Krishna District Volleyball Association felicitated veteran spiker Jagan Mohan (Baba).

Pradeep to lead

A.G. Pradeep will lead the ACA Central Zone seniors (one-day) team for the T. Rattaiah Trophy tournament to be held at Kakinada from February 1 to 5, according to ACA Central Zone secretary M.S.P.V. Ramana Murthy here on Saturday.
