Nishant scores a brace

CHENNAI: A brace by Nishant Negi helped AMET University knock out SSN College 3-1 in the K.C.G. Verghese Memorial inter-collegiate football tournament here on Monday.

The tournament was earlier inaugurated by Prof. Piotr Klodkowski, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland and Dr. K. Sarukesi, Vice-Chancellor, Hindustan University.

The results: AMET University 3 (Nishant Negi 2, Parlo Zambo) bt SSN College 1 (Ashwath); Gurunanak 2 (Karthick, Naresh) bt SMK Fomra 1 (Abhishek); Asan Memorial 1 (John Paul) bt Jerusalem 0; J.H.A Agarsen College 1 (Satheesh) bt GKM College 1 (Sathish), via tie-breaker.

Mohit advances

R.S. Mohit advanced to the second round of The Hindu-Sportstar junior tennis tournament beating Arjun Bharath 6-1, 6-2 here on Monday.

Don Bosco tournament

The Don Bosco-MRF cricket tournament (under-12 and under-15) will take place from January 28 to February 13, at the Don Bosco MHSS, Egmore.

“Sixteen teams from leading schools in the city will participate in the tournament,” said Physical Director M. Albert Sam, at a press conference.

The 16 teams will be Don Bosco, last year’s under-13 winner St. Bede’s, Santhome HSS, PS SSS, St. John’s Besant Nagar, Chettinad, Jawahar Vidyalaya, Bhavans Rajaji Vidyashram, PSBB KK Nagar, Sankara MS, DAV Gopalapuram, Union Christian MHSS, Maharishi Vidyamandir, Vidya Mandir Mylapore, St. Michael’s and last year’s under-11 champion PSBB TP Road.

Kalpathi Trophy cricket

The XIV YSCA league-cum-knockout cricket tournament for the Kalpathi Trophy will be conducted from the first week of February.

The tournament is open to business houses, banks, financial institutions and companies.

Only full-time employees not registered with the first or second division of the TNCA league are eligible.

Entries close on February 3 with the Organising Secretary, YSCA, Old 19/4, New 47/4, Moosa Street, T. Nagar, Chennai-17.
