Nicollet increases lead

“The greens played faster than yesterday and suited my style of play…also my striking was far better,” said an elated Sharmila Nicollet, after returning a card of one under 71 for the day, the second day of the Hero Honda KGA Women's Professional Golf tournament.

At the KGA course here on Wednesday, Nicollet widened the lead over her compatriots with one over 145 over the two days. Going into the final day on Thursday, there is hardly a threat to her title claim as second placed Nikita Arjun, Saniya Sharma, Nitika Jadeja and Nalini Singh Siwach are all way behind jointly at 14 over 158.

Nikita Arjun, also from Bangalore like Sharmila, was guarded after carding six over 78 for the day, two shots better than what she achieved on Tuesday. “I am happy with my round but can't take anything for granted…I have a day more to go,” she said.

Nalini Singh Siwach and Rani Sonti both slipped a few places with some poor shot making.

The scores (after two rounds): Sharmila Nicollet (74 + 71) 145; Nikita Arjun (80 + 78) 158; Saniya Sharma (80 + 78) 158; Nitika Jadeja (79 + 79) 158; Nalini Singh Siwach (78 + 80) 158; Pallavi Jain (79 + 80) 159; Rani Sonti (78 + 81) 159. Amateurs (after two rounds): Nikita Arjun (80 + 78) 158; Tvesa Malik (86 + 83) 169; Anisha Padukhone (91 + 81) 172 .
