Madurai City Police in last eight

Madurai: Madurai City Police, which caused a major upset by defeating SAI Hostel (Chennai) 2-1 on Thursday, went a step further to dislodge the former champion and host Thirunagar Hockey Club 2-1 to enter the quarterfinals of the Hi-Tech Arai-Bharat Petroleum BJPM Trophy State-level hockey tournament here on Friday.

Britto's lift title

St. Britto's Higher Secondary School lifted the Kannan-Eswari Trust Trophy defeating Nadar HSS (Rajapalayam) 25-13, 25-23 in the final of the sixth annual State-level inter-school volleyball tournament on Friday.

The results: Semifinals: St. Britto's bt GS Hindu HSS (Srivilliputhur) 25-18, 25-21; Nadar HSS bt Mangayarkarasi HSS 18-25, 25-21, 25-23.

Special awards: Player of the tournament: R. Manoj Kumar (GS Hindu HSS); Attacker: Jegadeesh Kumar (Mangayarkarasi HSS).

Reserve Line SC wins

Reserve Line Sports Club emerged winner in the play-off match for the title in the District-level SDAT-TNHA hockey league, defeating G.K. Motors Finance Hockey Club 2-1, on Friday.G.K. Motors scored first through Richard in the 10th minute. Satheesh equalised in the 12th minute and Rajagopal scored the winner in the 20th minute.
