MDFA felicitates former internationals

Mumbai: On the occasion of its silver jubilee year the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) felicitated Mumbai-based international players and officials at function at the Mumbai Hockey Association on Friday.

Bouquets and mementoes were presented and a distinguished former international among more than a dozen stalwarts lauded MDFA’s contribution to the development of football in the city.

“It’s been a memorable journey for the MDFA and today’s felicitation of the former players and officials will remain cherished in my memory. Football represents unity and is played by Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs and as Barack Obama said non-believers,” said Menezes. The MDFA would soon upgrade facilities at the St. Xaviers Ground at Parel (Central Mumbai) with assistance from sympathisers of a political party so that majority of the local league matches can be played there.

S.S. ‘Babu’ Narayan and Bandya Khakde were not present at the function. Others felicitated were Bernard Perreira, Arthur Perreira, Godfrey Perreira, Santosh Kashyap, Khalid Jamil, Jacinto D’Silva, Marto Gracias, Yusuf Ansari, Abbas Ali Rizvi, Abdul Qadir, Henry Picardo, Aqueel Ansari, Prasannan and Thomas Fernandes. — Special Correspondent
