KSCA XI in good position

Host KSCA XI will surely fancy its chances of making it to the summit clash after dominating day one of the KSCA all-India invitation cricket tournament semifinal against Hyderabad CA at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday.

After opting to field, the KSCA XI bowlers struck repeatedly right from the moment Sunil Joshi castled T. Suman with the scoreboard reading just 15.

Hyderabad eventually scored 231 in 71 overs thanks largely to the efforts of Ibrahim Khaleel (58, 85b, 7x4), skipper M.P. Arjun (31) and Neeraj Bist (65, 104b, 11x4).

Udit scalps four

Off-spinner Udit Patel, despite feeling the heat of Arjun's big hits, held his nerve and scalped four wickets while left-arm seamer S. Arvind (three for 77) kept the close-in cordon happy.

Chasing 232 for victory, KSCA XI lost a shaky K.L. Rahul and K.B. Pawan cheaply. However C.M. Gautam (53 n.o., 59b, 11x4) played with poise, leaning into his cover drives and strung a 62-run third-wicket partnership with a confident Robin Uthappa (30), who was returning to active cricket after an injury-induced three-month break.

Uthappa after easing into a few drives and pulling one disdainfully, failed to clear short mid-wicket. At close, KSCA XI was 137 for three in 26 overs and needed another 95 runs to seal victory.

The scores (semifinals):

Hyderabad CA 231 in 71 overs (Neeraj Bist 65, Ibrahim Khaleel 58, M.P. Arjun 31, Udit Patel four for 77, S. Arvind three for 41) vs. KSCA XI 137 for three in 26 overs (C.M. Gautam 53 batting, Robin Uthappa 30).

Railway SPB 290 in 94.2 overs (Faiz Fazal 78, S.S. Roy 56, Yere Goud 40, Dheeran Salvi 36, Adithya Sagar three for 39) vs. KSCA President's XI 11 for no loss in six overs.
