NEW DELHI: The Indian shooters struggled to cope with high class competition, with air rifle ace Gagan Narang finishing 77th with a 584, in the World Cup in Munich on Saturday.

In a field of 105 shooters, Gagan shot a series of 95, 99, 96, 98, 98 and 98.

Sanjeev Rajput (594) and P.T. Raghunath (592) were, however, relatively better placed at 30th and 43rd respectively. Gagan had won two medals, including the free rifle 3-position gold in the first World Cup in Korea.

In men’s trap, world champion Manavjit Singh Sandhu had to be content with the 27th spot in a strong field of 90, despite an impressive 120 out of 125, following a series of 24, 24, 23, 24 and 25.

In a high-scoring contest, even a score of 123 could not make the final, following a shoot-off.

Varsha 32nd

In women’s trap, Varsha Tomar finished 32nd out of 42, with a score of 65, while Shagun Chowdhary and Seema Tomar were further down following identical scores of 63.

Four of the finalists had shot 399, and six with 398 had a shoot-off for the other four places. Priya Agarwal was 28th with 395 and Lajja Gauswami was 45th with 393.
