India meets Nepal in opener

India will take on Nepal in the opening fixture of the qualifying round in the Middle Asia Zone (boys under-18) basketball championship to be held at the Sree Kanteerava Indoor stadium here from August 12 to 14.

The winner will take part in the 21st FIBA Asia under-18 championship to be held at Sanna, Yemen, from September 22 to October 1, this year.

Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are the other two countries in this zone.

Bangalore last hosted the Asia under-18 championship in 2004.

The top three teams at Sanna will figure in the FIBA under-19 World championship in Latvia in 2011.

India had finished 13th in the Asia under-18 championship in Tehran, Iran, which was won by the host.
