Grand opening planned for CL

BANGALORE: A grand opening ceremony will usher in the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 cricket tournament here on October 8 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

DNA Entertainment Network, which is organising the show, has planned a visual extravaganza with an array of showbiz personalities.

Spirit of Cricket oath

According to the schedule released by DNA, before the show begins the captains of the 12 teams will exchange team flags, and take the “Spirit of Cricket” oath to respect their opponents, their teams and their umpires.

They will then leave their handprints in clay as special collectors’ memorabilia while 200 school children will perform a choreographed sequence to the theme song of the Champions League before revealing the team logos and releasing thousands of balloons.

A performance by a team of Japanese drummers will be followed by international dancers in “Michelle Ferranti’s” costumes, running across the field using long yards of white silk to create an ethereal picture under laser lights.

Legendary Grammy award winner Chaka Khan will then take the stage to sing her hit single “I feel for you.”

Acrobatic cube artists will join along side with their gymnastic movements within a free standing cube.

Later, a choreographed group of Shaolin monks from China will display Tai Chi, Kung Fu and Chi Kung movements, surrounded by Kalaripayattu artistes.

This will be followed by the performances of pop stars, Shaggy and Jamelia.

Grand finale

As a finale, all the artistes including the children would gather on the field under laser lights and fireworks, thus bringing the curtains down on the ceremony.
