Ganapathy’s team wins gold

CHENNAI: K.C. Ganapathy’s team won the gold in the Laser Pico (dinghy) class — a 24-hour charity race — in Hong Kong recently.

In the Hong Kong Nationals, the 14-year-old Ganapathy, a sailor belonging to Tamil Nadu Sailing Association, had finished 27th among 66 sailors and attended a training clinic before participating in the charity event.

With a team of four other sailors, Ganapathy sailed day and night non-stop to bring home the gold.

Teamed with India’s Upamanyu Dutta, Diya Correa and Thailand’s Pop and Jam, the sailors took a two-hour turn each to sail and finished first with 73 laps in the 24 hours, way ahead of the second team which could finish only 58 laps in the same time.
