Five-wicket win for South Zone

VISAKHAPATNAM: South Zone beat West Zone by five wickets while East scored a seven-wicket win over North on the first day of the all-Indian senior women’s inter-zone tournament’s round-robin matches here on Monday.

Openers M.D. Thirush Kamini (72, 9x4) and Karuna Jain (27, 2x4) started South’s chase on a sound note with a 84-run stand at the ACA-VDCA stadium. Diana David (43 not out, 4x4) then ensured victory through a 43-run unbeaten stand for the sixth wicket with Mamta Kanojia.

Earlier, West after electing to bat made 186 for six in 50 overs, with Anagha Deshpande (41, 3x4) and Swetha Jadhav (21) adding 50 for the second wicket. Sunetra Paranjape scored 47 (2x4). S. Asha took two wickets for South.

At the Ukku stadium, Kadambini Mahakud (70, 7x4) and Devieka Sathe (38 not out, 3x4) shared two half-century partnerships each in East’s win over North. Kadambini put on 50 for the first wicket with Seema Singh (14) and 52 for the third wicket with Devieka.
