Disappointed

This is with reference to the news item under the heading ‘Kumble century denies India world record’ on the front page published on August 11. It left me disappointed. We all should be proud that a bowler like Anil Kumble has hit a Test century, batting at No. 8. Had a regular batsman achieved the feat, the front and the sports pages would have been full of details as to how the bowlers were belted. I am sure The Hindu, in the future, would appreciate the individual efforts by the players for the team.

Unfair

The headline ‘Kumble century denies India world record’ is unfair to the player concerned. I am sure the headline would have been different had a specialist batsman scored a century. A century in Test cricket has to be given its due.
