NEW DELHI: Dibyendu Barua surrendered to Italian sole leader Fabiano Caruana in the eighth and penultimate round of the Hogeschool Zeeland chess tournament at Vlissingen, Holland, on Friday.
Barua, who was among the overnight leaders, remained on six points. Barua’s wife Saheli Dhar and Jharkhand’s Deep Sengupta won their games to reach 5.5 points.
Tania loses
In the Paks Grandmasters Cup at Paks, Hungary, Tania Sachdev suffered her fourth loss in six rounds after facing local Krisztian Szabo for 41 moves. P. Hari Krishna will play white against Hungary’s Peter Acs when the action resumes after a day of rest in the Gyorgy Marx memorial chess tournament being played concurrently.
In Badalona, youngster P. Priyadarshan finished the Badalona International Open chess tournament with five points. In the final round, Priyadarshan drew with Spain’s Albert Muratet.
The performance in the nine-round event helped Priyadarshan gain 23 rating points.
