Cordiant lifts title

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Powered by a hurricane century by Arun Paulose (105) and an equally brilliant bowling performance by C.P. Shahid (four for 22), Cordiant Sports Foundation routed City Cricketers by 144 runs in the final of the Celestial Trophy all-Kerala cricket tournament at the Medical College ground here on Sunday.

Batting first, Cordiant posted an imposing total of 278 for nine in 45 overs with C.P. Rizwan and C.M. Thejus also contributing by scoring 48 and 36 runs respectively. In reply, City Cricketers could only muster 134 before being bowled out in 35.1 overs.

Former volleyball international and DIG of Police, S. Gopinath gave away the prizes.

The scores: Cordiant SF 278 for nine (Arun Paulose 105, C.P. Rizwan 48, C.M. Thejus 36, Sachin Mohan 3 for 40) bt City Cricketers 134 in 35.1 overs (V.S. Shiju 42, C.P. Shahid four for 22).

Individual awards: Promising Youngster: Jithin Ramachandran (Loyola). Best Bowler: C.P. Shahid (Cordiant). Best Batsman: Abhishek Hegde (Swantons). Man of the Final: Arun Paulose (Cordiant). Man of the Tournament: V.S. Mahesh (Murugans).
