CGF President meets ministers

NEW DELHI: The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) President, Mike Fennell, met the Union Home Minister, P. Chidambaram, among other ministers, here on Tuesday to assess the progress made towards the conduct of the Commonwealth Games next year.

Mr. Fennell, accompanied by the Organising Committee Chairman, Suresh Kalmadi, also met the Union Sports Minister, M. S. Gill, the Urban Development Minister, Jaipal Reddy and the Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit.

Mr. Fennell described the meetings as “very satisfying”. He added that the Organising Committee was proceeding on the right path.

On his meeting with Mrs. Dikshit, Mr. Fennell said that the Chief Minister was very committed and supported the Games.

Mr. Fennell expressed his satisfaction over the security arrangements being planned after watching a “solid presentation” by the Delhi Police. “Security is a matter of concern for all the countries today, not just India,” he said.
