Big win for Jolly Rovers

Chennai: Jolly Rovers posted an innings and 78-run victory over Southern Railway Institute, on the second day of the TNCA first division league cricket match at IIT Chemplast on Sunday.

V. Subramania Siva scored a 163-ball 150, comprising 17 fours and two sixes, putting on 120 runs for the fifth wicket with Piyush Chawla. Off-spinner P. Munuswamy claimed five wickets for Southern Railways.

After being dismissed for 134 in its first innings, Southern Railways was bowled out for 116. A. Avinash, Piyush Chawla and Tinu Yohanan claimed three wickets each.

Good bowling

Parry’s off-spinner N. Ragavendran claimed his sixth five-wicket haul this season, when he returned figures of seven for 67 in Grand Slam’s second innings at Murugappa.

Earlier, Parry’s was bowled out for 118 in its first innings, after which Ragavendran helped dismiss Grand Slam for 189. Needing 241 for a win, Parry’s ended the day at 10 for no loss. Ragavendran’s performance took his tally to 47 wickets this season.

Medium pacer S. Suresh and Sreekumar Nair came up with good performances for Vijay in the second-day encounter against Alwarpet at ICL-Gurunanak.

Resuming at 61 for five in its first innings, Alwarpet collapsed for 87 in 41.2 overs, with Suresh claiming five wickets for 17 runs. J. Kaushik picked up three wickets in 12 balls.

Sreekumar’s century

Vijay was 257 for six at close in its second innings, helped largely by Sreekumar Nair’s 196-ball 112 (including 17 boundaries) and captain R. Prasanna’s unbeaten 58-ball 82. Both put on 137 runs for the fifth wicket in 44.2 overs.

UFCC achieved a first-innings score of 400 against Aruna at SRMC on Sunday. D.J. Gokulakrishnan was unbeaten on a 96-ball 81, with nine fours and two sixes. Aruna was 114 for two at close.

At Pachaiyappa’s, India Pistons made 236 in 122 overs against Globe Trotters. Globe Trotters made 142 for the loss of two wickets at close.

C. Asuthosh’s all-round effort (78 & three for 12) helped St. John’s (Besant Nagar) beat Gill Adarsh MHSS by 127 runs in the final of the Sacred Heart city schools under-14 cricket tournament here.

Pratheeban shines

A.C. Pratheeban’s knock of 90 helped Adambakkam CC defeat Garnet RC by five wickets in a first division match of the Canara Bank-Kancheepuram DCA cricket league recently.
