Air India flies into semifinals

NEW DELHI: Air India outplayed Rohtak Road Gymkhana by eight wickets to cruise into the semifinals of the 35th all-India Goswami Ganesh Dutt Memorial cricket tournament at the St. Stephen’s College ground here on Saturday.

Chasing 216, Air India reached the target with 9.1 overs to spare, as Robin Bist, Rohit Parkash and Deepak Joon hit half-centuries.

Invited to bat, Rohtak Road Gymkhana got off to a good start and scored well, but could not boost the innings in the later stages, as Deepak Joon struck thrice. Opener Mohit Sharma top-scored for the team with 72.

Air India will meet the winner of the match between Collage Group and Haryana Colts in the semifinals.

The scores: Rohtak Road Gymkhana 215 for seven in 40 overs (Mohit Sharma 72, Anshul Gupta 56) bt Air India 217 for two in 30.5 overs (Robin Bisht 79, Rohit Prakash 65, Deepak Joon 58 n.o.)
