The report "Quiet flows the Kali Bein, again" (April 24) made delightful reading. The river has been revived solely on account of private initiative. Perhaps, that is what made the scheme successful. We have seen the Ganga action plan, the Jamuna action plan and not to be outdone, our Cooum beautification scheme. We have seen how all these plans went awry because no sincere effort was made to cleanse the rivers. Considering that Government efforts have not borne fruit, public-spirited bodies can show interest in reviving our ancient waterways.
