Corrections and Clarifications

  • It's the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited, and its contraction is NPCIL. A report "No progress in Kaiga probe, says police" (March 13, 2010) gave it as the "Nuclear Power Corporation", and the contraction as "NPCL" (two instances).

  • The third paragraph of a report "`DMK, Congress have defied bid to create rift'" (Tamil Nadu, March 14, 2010, page 1) was "It had also housed the office of the DMK Legislative Party before the members were evicted after the anti- Hindi agitations of 1986." A few readers said that the DMK's anti-Hindi agitations were in January 1965. The Chennai Bureau clarifies that this was a later anti-Hindi agitation led by the DMK when MGR was the Chief Minister. This was in 1986 after Rajiv Gandhi introduced the National Education Policy for setting up Navodaya schools.

  • A sentence at the end of the fifth paragraph of a report "Why allow women's disqualification Bill in Jamp;K Council, asks BJP" (March 14, 2010) was "But, this failed to convince the members [of the] BJP, the JKNPP and the JNM, who repeatedly asked why the introduction of the Bill was allowed." It should have been the JSM or the Jammu State Morcha.
