VHP plans 'dharna'

AHMEDABAD Dec. 4. The Vishwa Hindu Parishad has decided to observe peaceful ``dharna'' at all the district headquarters in Gujarat tomorrow to protest against the attack on its state general secretary, Jaideep Patel, yesterday.

Some shops in Naroda locality in the city, where Dr. Patel was shot at last evening, observed a self-imposed ``bandh'' and tension prevailed in some parts of the city and Vadodara but no untoward incident was reported from any part of the State.

Meanwhile, the condition of Mr. Patel was stated to be out of danger. The doctors performed a two-hour long operation to remove the bullet lodged in his throat.

An award of Rs. 50,000 has been announced by the police to anyone who could provide some clue about the attackers. Two unidentified youths in a motorcycle had opened fire at Dr. Patel while he was driving to his pathology laboratory in Naroda last evening.
