Miss India 2011 Vasuki Sunkavalli will return here on Wednesday to her family and friends after winning the coveted title. She will be in town for a short break before she takes off to Brazil where she will compete with the other beauties for the Miss Universe title in September.

This law graduate who did her International Law and Human Rights from New York University went to Symbiosis International University in Pune and then did a two-year stint to study Intellectual Property Rights in Delhi. “Academics comes first. My parents allowed me to follow my dream, provided I pursued my studies. While I was pursuing my law, I got enough chances to enter the fashion industry but I resisted as I wanted my degrees first,” recollects Vasuki.

Vasuki feels lucky that she has been able to do justice to both her passions. She first walked the ramp for Rajesh Pratap Singh at the Fashion Week. She wants to win the Miss Universe crown and champion causes and work with the United Nations. She also has political dreams “but that can wait for a while,” she says.

Back home, Vasuki's family is all prepared to welcome her. “It is euphoria. People in our village in Unguturu in West Godavari are more excited and there are celebrations there,” says Prabha, her mother.
