U.P. considering fresh notification

LUCKNOW, DEC. 6. The Uttar Pradesh Government today said it was "seriously considering" a fresh notification in a case relating to the Babri Masjid demolition and a decision on this would be taken at an "appropriate time."

"The Government is not avoiding the matter," the Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Mohd. Azam Khan, told newsmen here adding ``it is under serious consideration and a decision in this regard will be taken at an appropriate time."

He said the State Government was committed to abiding by the court order in this regard.

Mr. Khan said different Muslim organisations had also been demanding a fresh notification relating to a particular case.

"Issuing a fresh notification and transferring the trial from the Rae Bareli to a special CBI court here are also under consideration," he said.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court had in 2001 quashed the State Government's notification constituting a special court to try the case against the BJP president, L.K. Advani, the former Union Ministers, Uma Bharti and M.M.Joshi, the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Kalyan Singh, the BJP leader, Vinay Katiyar, and five others. — PTI
