Telangana government will appeal against the interim orders of High Court directing that reservations in the Panchayat Raj elections should not exceed 50%. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has said that the government will file an appeal in the Supreme Court.

The Chief Minister has decided that the government will appeal to the Supreme Court that the earlier permission of the apex court to implement 61% quota, including 34% reservation to the Backward Classes, to be respected. He instructed the Cabinet sub-committee on Panchayat Raj to meet on Wednesday and do the necessary exercise for filing a petition in the Supreme Court. The Chief Minister suggested that the additional advocate general as well as all officers concerned should also be invited to the Cabinet sub-committee meeting and discuss thoroughly the pros and cons of the issue and finalise the strategy to present the argument in the court and the necessity to implement 61% reservation in PR institutions.
